Lednicko-valtický areál – světový unikát

The Lednice-Valtice area is the largest landscape complex in Europe and since 1996 it has been registered as a part of the UNESCO world and cultural heritage. It will surely amaze and delight you with its picturesque, romantic nooks and crannies, whether close to individual monuments or in the bends of the river Dyje, along floodplain forests and ponds. A trip to the Lednice-Valtice area is definitely not to be missed.

In the past, the Lednice-Valtice area belonged to the Liechtenstein estate. It was built around the main seat of the Liechtensteins, which was at the castle in Valtice. It stretches between Lednice, Valtice and Břeclav. The main buildings of the Lednice-Valtice area are two castles. One is in Valtice, which was the main seat of the Liechtensteins, and the other in Lednice, which was their summer residence.

Valtice Castle is located in the important wine town of Valtice. It stands on the site of the original castle, which was rebuilt by the Liechtensteins. There is a nature park around the chateau, as if made for a short walk. It is also worth mentioning the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on the square below the castle. From Valtice you can easily visit the nearby Reistna Colonnade, from where there is a wonderful view of the surroundings or the hunting lodge Rendez-vous, which is nicknamed Diana's Temple because it was dedicated to the goddess of hunting Diana. In Valtice, the Capital city of Wine, you must not miss a walk among the vineyards and at least a small tasting in the local cellars.

The Renaissance Lednice Chateau can be found nearby in the town of Lednice. Adjacent to Lednice Castle is a monumental hipodrome (former riding school) and a large Lednice castle park. It is like made for a bigger walk. You can visit here, for example, the castle greenhouse or the local Minaret on the shore of the castle pond. Near Lednice, about 3 km away, you will find the hunting lodge Janův hrad, which is hidden in floodplain forests, but you can get to it on foot from the castle garden or by boat. Boat trips are very popular especially in the summer in the area of the Lednice castle park.

However, the list of buildings and beauties of the Lednice-Valtice area does not end there… Especially cycling lovers will be happy to see them all. The landscape is perfect for recreational cycling, no big hills and climbs, but on the contrary a peaceful ride, during which you can soak up the beauty of the landscape. For example, not far from Lednice you will find the Mill pond, which is dominated by the Temple of Apollo. It was built here to rest the manor, and especially for the beautiful view of the pond and the sunset. From Lednice na Valtice you can admire the monumental church of the Three Graces dedicated to the goddesses Aphrodite, Athena and Artemis. Here you can admire not only the sculpture of three goddesses, which was carved from one piece of stone. Between Lednice and Valtice, you will find, for example, the picturesque Pond castle or another summer residence of the nobility Border castle. If you head towards Břeclav, you must not miss the Empire chateau Pohansko. It used to rest the manor after hunting and lies directly in the largest game reserve in the Czech Republic. As the place was inhabited several centuries before it was rebuilt by the Liechtensteins, you will find an educational Slavic trail in its vicinity and you can visit the Slavonic Memorial exhibition directly at the chateau.
